铸铁平板又称铸铁平台，外观基本上是箱体式，工作面有长方形、正方形、圆形等，材料为HT200-300，QT400-600，采用刮研工艺，工作面上可加工V形、T形、U形槽、燕尾槽、圆孔、长孔等，是用于工件、设备检测、划线、装配、焊接、组装、铆焊的平面基准量具。
铸铁平板的精度：0级、1级、2级、3级、精刨，根据用途来区分精度。
铸铁平台可以用地锚器安装，首先用户根据铸铁平台的图纸做好地基和预埋孔，然后把地锚器放到提前设置的预留孔里，将铸铁平台调整水平，铁平台根据用户的要求设计安装方式，地脚螺栓安装。
铸铁平台调至水平、负荷均匀分布于各支点上。环境温度(20±5)℃。使用时应避免振动。铸铁平台采用垫铁安装的优点，安装快捷、移动方便。
延长铸铁平台的寿命时在使用的过程中要注意不要在潮湿，有腐蚀、过高和过低的温度环境下使用和存放铸铁平板使用后应清洗干净，搞好防锈工作。
